Fleet from Stratos

Inmarsat Fleet: Always-online, interactive solutions

Inmarsat Fleet has:

  • An ISDN channel
  • An MPDS packet data channel
  • 2-way GMDSS, also coastguard-to-vessel (Fleet 77 only)
  • ISP activation option, without compromising GMDSS
  • Small and light equipment means easy installations
  • SIM card option
  • Standard interfaces, such as RJ11, RJ45, RS232 and USB

Inmarsat Fleet is the latest satcom solution for maritime users, providing multiple forms of rapid and cost-effective access to a range of applications. These include e-mail, Inter/Intranet and access to corporate networks via VPN.

Inmarsat Fleet features voice, fax, high speed ISDN channels and MPDS packet switched data which delivers a permanent, high-capacity, always-online connection. The unique advantage of MPDS is that you only pay for the actual data you send and receive - not for the time you are connected. Therefore MPDS means "Always On", and the possibility to integrate the vessel into the IT infrastructure of the office. In fact Inmarsat Fleet extends your office all the way to the oceans.

The Inmarsat Fleet suite of services comprises of Fleet 33, Fleet 55 and Fleet 77.
Fleet 77
provides voice, fax as well as high speed 64k ISDN and MPDS connection services, all in the global beam. Fleet 55 provides a similar range of services, however the fax and data services are provided in the Inmarsat spot beams. The Fleet 55 voice service is still provided in the global beam. Fleet 33 features a 9.6k data channel instead of ISDN. Like Fleet 55, the Fleet 33 fax and data services are offered in the spot beams and its voice service is provided via the global beam.

Inmarsat Fleet 77 also offers an improved GMDSS service by enabling 2-way safety and distress GMDSS communications: Fleet 77 is the first system that, next to a ship-to-shore distress channel, also enables a shore-to-ship distress channel. So in case of an emergency the vessel can always be reached by the rescue authorities ashore.

Inmarsat Fleet 77 can be activated either under an Accounting Authority (AA) or under an Inmarsat Service Provider (ISP) code. Activation under ISP code does not compromise the GMDSS capability of the terminal. Optionally terminals can even be fitted with a SIM card.
